The Marriage Equality Act 2013 is a bill in the legislature of the Australian Capital Territory.

The bill would:

  • Allow same-sex couples to marry
  • Discontinue civil unions
  • Provide an exemption that religious facilities may be legally denied use as a place of solemnization of a marriage
  • Recognize marriages and certain other relationships (e.g. civil unions, domestic partnerships) entered into in other jurisdictions as a marriage for territory law

If passed, the bill would be effective as of a date set by the Minister, with a maximum date of six months and one day after notification of the bill's passage.
