S1is a bill in the New Jersey legislature during the 2012-2013 legislative session. If passed, starting 60 days after enactment, the bill would legalize same-sex marriage, cease the issuance of civil union licenses, and consider all existing state civil unions (except those in the process of dissolution) to be marriages

The bill was superseded on October 21, 2013 when the court's order in Garden State Equality v. Dow took effect. There are still efforts to override the Governor's veto before the end of the legislative session in 2014.
